7 Things You Didn’t Know Your Phone Could Do
Most people now have a mobile phone that they don’t ever go without, and are often left lost if they leave it behind or lose it. However, despite that attachment and the considerable amount of time we all spend on our phones, there are quite a few interesting and useful features we don’t know about—some of it may even surprise the most technically advanced of us!
Whether you want to have a spirit level to hand, make sure you and your loved ones get home safe or monitor your health one of these is bound to be something you wish you’d known about sooner.
Look Up Pictures By Category
Ever look at your gallery on your phone and think, oh I can’t be bothered to deal with that unorganised mess now or have you gone to show someone a picture and can’t find it through the endless scrolling? You’re probably not alone. Well, a matter of fact Don’t, finding it is easier than just continuing to scroll. There’s a handy search function at the top of your phone application that allows you to search by category. Why not give it a go, try typing in dog and all your snaps of your pet dog should show up.
Casting
It’s now easier than ever to stream all our favourite programmes, watch the latest movies and catch up on the latest news using as such as Now TV, Apple News Plus and Netflix. But do we really want to be watching these on our tiny six-inch screens? Well, there’s an easy workaround. On pretty much every mobile whether it’s an Apple, Samsung or Nokia will have casting available, all you need to do is swipe up and you’ll see an option for Screen Mirroring (casting). You will need to make sure you have the right equipment for this to work such as Apple TV, Google Chrome Cast or a Smart TV. Any device that’s casting compatible has this capability. You can then view the content that is on your phone directly on your TV. You can even cast to other peoples devices when visiting them as long as you’re connected to the Wifi.
Keep You Safe When Walking Alone
It’s perfectly natural and expect to get a little bit worried when you’re walking home at night time or any time of the day for the matter especially with some of the things you hear on the news now. Although it’s be nice think you don’t need to worry it’d be a little irresponsible to not be a little bit on guard. However, there are ways that you can keep safer thanks to your phone. There are now apps such as the bSafe app that’s available on both google play and apple stores where you can send invitations to your chosen contacts such as your partner and they are able to track your location. You can also set a timer that will send a distress call to the same contacts if you haven’t made it home by a certain time and you can even arrange fake calls so if anyone is nearby they will think you’re talking to someone about your trip home.
Control Your Lights
That’s right! You can now control your lights from your phone. So if you want to make your home feel safer and better lit in the push of one button you’ve got an app for that. You do need to have Wifi enabled bulbs in your home but what better way to bring your home into the modern world than adding these as a feature to your home. They can all be controlled by Amazon Alexa app, this means you can turn the lights on/off in all the rooms of your home. You can even turn them on when you’re out so if it gets dark before you are due to arrive home you can reduce the risk of a break in by switching on a few lights.
Monitor Your Heart Rate
Fitness trackers are becoming more and more popular and it’s said that more than 50 per cent of home now has them throughout the whole family. But, if you don’t have a tracker you are still able to track your heart rate with your phone all thanks to apps. Have a try with the Instant Heart Rate app, you are able to use the camera on Android or your home button on the iPhone, you are able to monitor your heart rate throughout the day during normal activities and even during your workout to ensure you’re getting into the maximum fat-burning zone, perfect if you’re looking after your health.
Diagnose Your Car Problems
If you’ve never had car problems, like the majority of car owners you can dread needing to take your car to a mechanic. In fact, a lot of people try to avoid it just as much as going to the dentist just because they are worried that something major may be wrong. Who can blame them when often it can cost just to have your car diagnosed for problems to just find that it wasn’t anything to worry about in the first place. If you make use of the Proapp available on iPhones and Androids and get the handy adapter that allows you to plug your phone into your car’s ODB-II port, which is usually located around the base of the steering column you will be able to make use of all the features it offers such as diagnostics on engine troubles, car parking reminds and send loved ones a message if you’ve had an accident.
Help Get Things Level
Not everyone has a toolbox that is bulging with the right tools for every job so being able to use things such as a spirit level on your phone becomes extremely handy. It’s no longer a problem if you don’t have a level to hand you can just get the Bubble Level app for both iPhone and Android and make use of the simple to use level. Perfect for any DIY project or just simply hanging a picture.
