Do you keep finding that you get into work, check your emails and then all of a sudden it’s lunchtime, and you’ve done nothing? Where does the time go and are you making the most of the time you have? One of the most common thing employees complain about is not having enough time, so how can make more time, save time and best utilize the time you have?

Track Your Time

Start by tracking your time. If you’re really not sure where it’s going then to understand better how you really spend your time, take a few days and write down everything you do and how long it takes. Include breaks, email, social media and everything else, so that you’ll find out what your biggest time wasters are. Try a time tracking app like hourstracker or toggl, and you’ll soon see where your time is going.

Schedule Time for Email and Social Media

Don’t be a slave to emails thinking you have to read and answer them every time a notification pops up on your desktop. Email and social media can be huge time wasters, so don’t respond to every email as it comes in and don’t leave Facebook or Twitter open all day. Instead, schedule a short amount of time once or twice a day to dedicate to these tasks.

Make Use Of Technology

If there’s a tool which can do it for you, then use it. From project management, compiling reports to automated replies or even signing documents, make the most of the technology advancements and what’s on offer to you. Have a look for software which can save everyone time, especially on menial tasks so that everyone’s time can be better spent on using their brains and talent.

Outsource

Just like if there’s technology out there, if there’s another company out there who are experts in the job you need doing, get them to do it. From commercial printers to accounting, if it’s not what you specialize in then stop wasting your time, someone else will be able to do a better job, and they’ll do it quicker too.

Put Down Your Phone

There are apps you can use on your phone too, which will make you realize how often you pick it up to look at it and ultimately waste your time. Forest will help you to stay focussed by planting a seed in Forest, which you’ll watch gradually grow into a tree. But if you leave the app to answer a text message or check Twitter, then the plant immediately dies, and you’ll have to start over again. Now you don’t want to see your little tree die, do you? So, leave your phone alone. Using an app like this will really show you how often you look at your phone when you’re waiting for something like a website to load.

Plan

It goes without saying but if you plan ahead, make lists and stick to them then you will have a far better chance of saving your time than if you don’t. Don’t waste it on figuring out what you’re going to do or doing two tasks at the same time and achieving none, get organised and you’ll save loads of time.
