Security Tips that will Protect your Small Business from Criminal Activity

How many times do you see stories in the news about intruders, vandals or even burglars? Probably quite a lot. If you don’t want your small business to show up in the latest headlines then it is important that you take the right steps, early-on.

Good Locks

The first thing that you need to do is invest in some good, high-quality locks. It doesn’t matter whether you have a store, or even a small office on the outskirts of town because you have to make sure that you invest in your business security. A good commercial locksmith should be able to help you out here and they can also work with you to give you all of the advice you need regarding changing your locks too. If you want to take things to the next level, then it is always a good idea for you to add some deadbolts to your exterior doors. Windows should also be secured, with warehouses having roller shutters and locking bollards.

Review and Replace Locks

If you have leased the building recently then you never truly know who might have keys to your establishment. It’s advisable that you change your locks and that you also look into what your insurance is going to cover you for as well. If you don’t then you may not be able to make a claim if you are ever broken into and this is the last thing that you need.

Smart Access

It’s always a good idea for you to consider smart locks or even automatic locking systems too. Sure, these are more expensive, but they will add an element of control. This will make it easier for you to restrict or even change access without having to invest in a new lock all the time. Smart keypads are ideal here as they can let you know when anyone has entered a building and it also gives you a timestamp of that too.

Light It Up

Intruders are fascinated by any poorly lit premises. After all, they are an easy target and it also makes it easier for them to get the job done. If you have any dimly-lit areas around your premises then it’s a good idea for you to install a security light. This will act as a deterrent and it will also let a potential intruder know that they have been detected.

Fit an Alarm

The presence of a quality security alarm will also act as a deterrent. This will let any potential criminal know that you take your security seriously and it will also let you monitor the premises while you are at home too.

Anti-Climb Measures

It doesn’t matter whether you have spikes or even anti-climb paint because this will make it much more difficult for intruders to enter the building. Things like this are very easy for you to purchase and they can make a huge difference to the overall security of your property. You should also note that in some instances, it can reduce the total cost of your insurance too.
